Angra Mainyu (/ˈæŋrə ˈmaɪnjuː/; Avestan: Aŋra Mainiiu) is the Avestan-language name of Zoroastrianism’s hypostasis of the “destructive spirit”. The Middle Persian equivalent is Ahriman (Anglicised pronunciation: /ˈɑːrɪmən/). Angra Mainyu is omnimalevolent. Angra Mainyu is Ahura Mazda’s adversary.
